Waupaca Featured in "Foundry Work" Photo Editorial Book

Sara Timm | Waupaca Foundry

Although iron castings can be found in almost all durable goods and equipment (including the vehicles we drive, tractors and plows in our country's fields, heavy machinery used in construction, and even consumer goods in our homes) they remain relatively obscure. And the brands that make castings carry little consumer awareness, especially when compared to manufacturers that use them to assemble their products like Ford, John Deere, Whirlpool, GE, and Boeing to name a few.

Photographer Michael Schultz has set out to not only capture but expose the spectacular castings that come from large foundries in the U.S. and abroad. Waupaca Foundry is humbled to be one of only 27 foundries featured in his second installment of Foundry Work Volume Two: A Global View of the Industry featuring stunning photographic images from large foundries from across the globe.

After receiving a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship in 2010, Michael Schultz traveled across four continents and witnessed 40 pound to 400 ton castings being made. His first book Foundry Work: A View of the Industry was published in 2008.

Volume Two is a 10 x 12-inch, 288-page book that includes more than 300 images and 14 fold-out pages. It is on sale now. To purchase the book, visit www.michaelschultzphotography.com
